Mike Corbett

President Emeritus

Michael Corbett

Mike Corbett is a lifelong resident of New York, New York, calling the same place home for 35 years. Mike gained his passion for advocacy at an early age as his father Bob Corbett was President of Teamsters Local 814. Walking picket lines and hand billing against non-union moving companies was a regular activity for Mike growing up. In 2000, Mike became a third generation union member when he officially joined Local 814, and remained a member until 2015. The members of Local 814 elected Mike to serve as an Executive Board member in 2006 at the age of 24, which made him the youngest person ever elected in the history of that union.

Mike was always interested in politics and could not wait to vote for the first time in the 2000 General Election when he cast his ballot for Al Gore for President and Hillary Clinton for Senate. Mike remained a casual observer until 2007 when a speech from then-Presidential Candidate John Edwards inspired him to get more involved. Two weeks later, Mike joined the Young Democrats. Throughout his almost 10 years of service, Mike held leadership roles on the local, state, regional, and national levels, including his term as Vice President of the Young Democrats of America from 2011-2013. In addition, Mike is a two time Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2012 and 2016, and served on the New York Leadership Council and National Millennial Council for 2016 Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton.

Mike Corbett was elected President of the New York State Young Democrats in May of 2014 and became the first person re-elected to that position in over a decade in 2016.
